Our
youth ministry
is under the leadership of
Pastor
Chandler and his wife, Tanzy Chandler. Mr. and
Mrs.
Chandler says, "Youth ministries is an awesome opportunity
that God has given us to change this
world forever. It is an opportunity to say to an under
appreciated group that they are valued and loved,
to measure their value based upon God's idea of them and not our own. We
believe that God has deposited gifts in every person and it is our job to
identify what those gifts are." |

Tanzy
Chandler was born in Toronto, Canada and is one of four children. She received a
Bachelor of Human Kinetics degree from the
University of Windsor. She
recently received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at the
University of
Puget Sound. Her
goal is to be used by God to reach out to others through the health
field, specializing Physical Therapy and in other way the Lord chooses
to use her.

"Our commission is based on the 'call' like the disciples. The basis for the
Chandler's ministry like the appeal Christ's challenge was to the
disciples to "make them fishers of men". His encouragement to them to
'fish'
even though they were still in training, did not hold them back. He
watched them make mistakes and used these opportunities more often to teach than to
scold. We would be first to admit that we are still in training. However we
refuse to use that as an excuse not do our Father's work. So we use the
gifts we have mastered and sharpen those we have not."
The Chandler's have design ministries that allow the youth to use their unique
talents. They started a Basketball Ministry, playing every Sunday at
neighborhood parks, with hopes of meeting other youth there. During early
Spring, they pack the Fellowship Hall of the church with kids from all areas
competing in a video game competition. The youth however found the videogames
exciting, but the Chandler's gave them more than they bargained for, they shared the
gospel with them.
Once a month on
Sabbath morning, the
Chandler's and the youth help prepare
breakfast for the homeless that are fed in the Fellowship Hall of the church. |
Vision Youth
In September of 1999, our church joined in an
ambitious project to reach unchurched youth in the Central Area of Seattle. The
project was called, "Vision Youth". The organization gave three years of
resources and enabled the church to have a full-time youth worker to develop a
ministry to reach youth in the community for Christ.
The program focuses mainly on middle young people. The
program offers new and innovative programs to help them grow both spiritually
and mentally. This allows them to have fun, fellowship, and learn about Jesus.
Meetings are held each Wednesday at the church from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Also, there
is an Academic Center available to help meet their academy challenges. The
Center is available on Wednesday's and Thursday's from
3:30-6:00 p.m. or other hours upon request.
The goal of this ministry is to offer support to the young people and give them
positive alternatives to the negative peer pressures they are faced with on a
daily basis.
